![]() ![]() Give me ELO all day everyday, but I get it now. Lynne is unquestionably (to me) a more talented song writer and musician, and there is a polish and refinement to his craft that results in an incredibly harmonic and pleasing cacophony of sound (more consistently and across a much wider book of music, no less).but he's a much less "interesting" figure than Mercury, and there is a raw depth of emotion unleashed by Freddie that Lynne never quite managed to tap into. Arguably more creative and daring, what was missing? What I understand now, but couldn't then, is that while there are parallels, there is no competing with the magnetic/tragic Mercury factor. At the time I was getting into ELO, Queen was just coming into/back into vogue (riding the Wayne's World wave), and it angered my teenage self that more people weren't more gaga over ELO. I often see a lot of comparisons to Queen, but I don't think ELO will ever reach that level of adoration. To then discover she had all the albums on vinyl blew my mind, and I still have/listen to the now scratchy records to this day. The band also included former ELO bassist and vocalist Kelly Groucutt, and violinist Mik Kaminskifor most of its career, along with conductor Louis Clarkwho toured as a guest with ELO in its later years. Get your ELO stock now because when the wave hits everyone will be claiming to be a lifelong fan.įor me, I was hooked the moment I popped my mom's ELO's Greatest Hits CD (acquired for 1/12th of a penny from Columbia House!) in the mid 90s. ELO Part IIwas a band formed by Electric Light Orchestradrummer and co-founder Bev Bevan. ![]() There will be a new wave of ELO fans and renaissance at some point. Their stuff is just too rich and nuanced to fly under the radar. Public consciousness related to ELO is on the rise. ![]()
